REMONDIS advances the Australian soft plastics recycling by installing a new EREMA® pelletising plant.

REMONDIS operates in the fields of recycling, services and water management, working to symmetrically return recyclable materials to production cycles and generate climate-friendly energy.

In April 2024, REMONDIS partnered with CEMAC technologies to install a state-of-the-art EREMA® soft plastics pelletising plant that converts used plastics to top-quality recycled

The EREMA® Intarema® TVEplus® 1310 RegrindPro® is based at REMONDIS's specialised facility in Jandakot to process soft plastics from across WA. REMONDIS. Australia General Manager – Western Australia  - Chris Gusenzow said the investment was in response to Federal COAG plastics export bans and businesses demanding more circularity when it comes to plastics recycling solutions.

“Big players such as supermarkets and other large retailers are always asking what’s happening to disposable plastic, and this is as close as we can get to a silver bullet recycling solution,’’ Chris said.

The Intarema was imported by CEMAC technologies from its long standing partner, EREMA®, in Austria. EREMA’s an innovative technology leader in the field of plastics, making plastics recycling extremely efficient and profitable. Their machinery opens new opportunities for the industry in remanufacturing by creating high quality pellets that compete with virgin material.

At maximum operation the installed unit can produce up to 5,000 tonnes of pellets per year that can be sold locally and internationally for low density polyethylene applications.

The EREMA® INTAREMA® TVE plus® RegrindPro® is amongst the most advanced recycling technologies available for difficult to recycle materials. In particular it combines lowest energy requirements with the most effective de-gassing capabilities, extremely efficient melt filtration and lowest shearing of material, which keeps the product as intact as possible.

The TVE design enables effective and triple de-gassing, especially with high vacuum after the maximum melt pressure and temperatures occur in the continuous melt filter.

The line is in addition equipped with a second melt filtration step using the EREMA® automatic backflush filter, which enables capturing of gels and other residual impurities in the melt.

The RegrindPro® uses gentle regrind processing, ensuring top-quality recycled pellets. End products maintain mechanical properties, surface quality and re-manufacturing with high recycled pellet content. RegrindPro® offers versatility, handling a wide range of regrind types seamlessly without screw changes, while maintaining consistently high throughput. Its capability to process materials with bulk densities from 30 to 800 g/l makes it ideal for diverse applications like film, sheet, and nonwovens.

CEMAC technologies Managing Director Eric Paulsen described the unit as a great addition to Australia’s recycling infrastructure.

“This recycling equipment really is a win for industry in terms of controlling disposal costs, and a win for the environment in terms of more being done with existing products, thereby reducing the need for new plastics being manufactured and disposed of.’’

CEMAC technologies would like to thank REMONDIS for choosing to partner on this project in advancing Australia’s circular economy.
