Shred & Briquette Metal with WEIMA

Metal is heavy and voluminous - but valuable. Recovery and further processing of metal scraps pays off.

WLK series

  • Perfect cutting gap thanks to adjustable counter knives

  • Universally applicable V rotor for demanding applications

  • Controlled material feeding by ram with serrated plate and segmented floor

  • Offset rotor bearings protect against dust and foreign matter

  • Homogeneous shredding results thanks to flexible interchangeable screen

  • Easy integration of conveyor technology thanks to generous belt cutout

ZM series for bulky materials

  • Can be equipped with a frequency converter. This allows the speed to be continuously regulated and power spikes can be avoided

  • Extremely low rotational speed of the shafts of about 25 rpm means that the noise level is restricted to only approx. 76 dB(A)

  • For shredding particularly abrasive materials, such as fibrous or heavily contaminated material, we recommend our anti-wear package. Along with a double-walled machine design, wear protection plates can be selected in the cutting chamber on the fixed bearing side and on the gearbox side to ensure a particularly long bearing life. In addition, cutting shafts and cutting discs can be made of hardened tool steel

  • The cutting configuration of the ZM shredders comes standard with two cutting shafts and two clearing shafts. The cutting shafts can be configured according to the desired throughput and particle size. The width and number of cutting discs can be variably adapted to your application

The WEIMA TH 800 M briquette press was designed specifically with metal applications in mind. This machine allows for the briquetting of all types of metal shavings, chips, and turnings. Briquetting these materials into dense briquettes adds significantly to their resale value. Not only that, but this machine makes it possible to recollect valuable cutting fluids and emulsions for reuse. A tray and pump is located below the machine to make the collection of these liquids possible. The briquettes that are created can be smelted immediately, resulting in less slag and a higher material recovery rate.

Maximum pressures of up to 3,900 kg/cm2

The powerful axial piston pump of the hydraulic unit delivers an output of up to 37 kW. This allows the buildup of particularly high press pressures of up to 3,900 kg/cm2 (TH 800 M), resulting in extreme compaction of the briquettes produced. The remaining hydraulic components are also reinforced. The result: a longer service life and decreased maintenance costs. However, for those who require significantly less power depending on the application, motors starting at 5.5 kW are also available.

Intuitive operation with touch panel

Maximum flexibility. For quick parameter adjustments (e.g. briquette length, number of briquettes per minute, density, etc.) during material changes, the large touch panel with Siemens S7 PLC control can be operated ergonomically. It also visualizes various processes in the machine. To ensure that the electronics are optimally matched to the machine, we design, build, and wire our control cabinets completely ourselves. We only use high-quality brand components – for example from Siemens, Allen Bradley or Rittal.

Reliable multi-shift operation thanks to large Bosch Rexroth hydraulic oil tank including cooling

The separate oil tank of the Bosch Rexroth hydraulic unit has a capacity of approx. 600 liters and is equipped with efficient oil cooling. Due to this large quantity, the quality of the hydraulic oil can be maintained at a very high level for a long time - this is ideal for use in multi-shift operations.

Highly compressed briquettes of the best quality for industrial requirements

All WEIMA briquettes are characterized by their dimensionally stable form. By using matrix technology, even better compaction and volume reduction can be achieved compared to pressing clamps. Depending on the application, the briquettes are then so dense that they even sink in water. They therefore have a density >1 (e.g. for aluminum a density of approx. 2.3, for other metals considerably more). Therefore, briquettes of TH Industrial series are ideal for subsequent selling. Their rectangular shape also makes them easy to handle, as they can be stacked for transport.

Easy integration into production lines or as a stand-alone solution

Optimally connected: WEIMA briquetting presses have all common interfaces to ensure fast integration into new or existing production lines. Machines of the TH Industrial series can be operated autonomously and in multiple shifts in automatic mode. Production parameters can be flexibly adjusted, for example in case of material changes.

Case Study - Mastel Aluminium-Halbzeuge GmbH, Talheim

Shavings occur wherever planing work is done. If you replace planing with cutting, this statement applies accordingly to the imposing, 2600 sq.m. large production workshop of Mastel Aluminium-Halbzeuge GmbH where primarily aluminum is brought into form through precision cutting. Working 24 hours a day in 3 shifts, the plant creates a considerable amount of cutting waste: pure-grade material which managing director Marco Mastel has been turning into easily saleable recyclable material consistently since mid-2011. And he is helped in this by innovative technology from WEIMA.

Carefully considered investment

Several tonnes of pure aluminum as cutting waste per year. This magnitude made investment in a high-performance recycling system economically interesting. The decision for WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH of Ilsfeld was made quite deliberately. And with good reason. Marco Mastel: “Fundamentally, we expect the highest professional competence from our suppliers, as well as proven experience with the products in which we are interested. And if both of these conditions are met, the deciding factor is the geographical proximity as this makes cooperation easier, particularly if something has to be discussed urgently in person.”

Metal shavings briquettes

Mastel Aluminium-Halbzeuge GmbH is part of the Mastel Group and cuts panels, sheets, round material and profile sections of aluminum in all dimensions. Customers include machinery, tool and die manufacturers, automobile suppliers, aviation and the automation industry as well as medical and electrical engineering. Everything is focused on maximum quality. The model 1500 M briquetting press of the TH series installed by WEIMA at the end of the production line rounds off this production process and was installed in its own section of the building. This is where the extracted shavings from all automatic cutting machines are brought together for treatment. Mastel’s requirements were clear: To turn production-related waste into compact, easily storable and easily saleable recyclable material! A challenge that WEIMA solves these days for all types of material. In Mastel’s case, so that the aluminum briquettes formed at up to 280 bar fall straight off the conveyor belt into big bags ready for sale.

WEIMA is pleased to provide all future-oriented companies with detailed information on the innovative technology of shredding and briquetting. The same applies for current references. And here the amazing facts on profitability. A clear statement: The greater the pressure, the smaller the volume – and all the more profit! Marco Mastel puts this into clear terms. “Using WEIMA technology, we have reduced the volume of our waste material by around 80 %. And that is really easy to market!”

Rapid amortization

Really easy to market? Naturally, the achievable market prices of pure aluminum for the recycling process play a decisive role in this respect. In view of the compact briquette form, Mastel can certainly expect that the price will be right – and fully benefit the calculated rapid amortization of the WEIMA system.

Marco Mastel casts a glance at the operating meter. Then, he names an amazing figure. After only 12 months since commissioning, the machine’s electronic system shows that it has already been in operation for 4500 hours. “We are running three shifts all year round. Our TH is in stand-by mode 24 hours a day. It starts up automatically as soon as the defined volume has been reached in the shavings container.
